What is Mesotherapy?
Mesoptherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that eliminates cellulite, reduces inches around your body, treats aging or sagging skin and rejuvenates the hands and neck. The treatment involves multiple micro injections of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, standardized natural plant extracts, vitamins and amino acids into the mesoderm (middle layer of skin). Formulas have been developed through the Mesotherapy Institute of Technology, researched and referenced with the most current medical and pharmacological research. These micro-doses of medications are administered into targeted sites for treatment of the cosmetic spectrum of body sculpting, cellulite reduction and skin rejuvenation, targeted fat reduction and overall weight loss.
Developed in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor, Mesotherapy became recognized as a medical specialty by the French Academy of Medicine in 1987. Today, over 18,000 physicians practice Mesotherapy throughout Europe and South America. Popularized in the United States in the last decade, it is now a widely administered aesthetic and cosmetic procedure.
At the Meso Laser Clinic, our Mesotherapy specifically addresses cellulite treatment or fat reduction, body sculpting and skin rejuvenation. All treatments are administered personally by Dr. Simin Siddiq, M.D.
How does Mesotherapy reduce or eliminate cellulite and fat?
Many factors contribute to cellulite formation, including genetics, damaged connective tissues, poor circulation, weight gain/loss changes, hormonal factors and poor nutrition. Cellulite formation also typically develops in areas previously treated with liposuction. Dr. Siddiq will medically select and create a specific formula to reduce cellulite, improve impaired circulation and break down damaged connective tissue. Cellulite appears anywhere on the body – legs, buttocks, stomach, arms, back. Mesotherapy can be administered in any of these areas. Depending on the desired on results, it may take 10-15 treatments, at 1-2 week intervals to treat your cellulite problem.
Tell me more about “body sculpting”.
Sometimes, diet and exercise just don’t produce the total results you want. Mesotherapy for body sculpting is the perfect treatment for those that want to “spot remove” areas of unwanted fat. Typically, these areas are what we call the tummy bulge and the bra bulge, love handles, the hips and thighs, double chin or fatty neck and even swollen, puffy eyes.
Fat storage in these areas is not only affected by genetics and diet, but also by the distribution of fat cell receptors found in different locations. To address these stubborn problems, we use formulas that dissolve fat and increase your metabolism.
What’s the difference between Liposuction and Mesotherapy?
Liposuction is a very invasive procedure that completely removes fat cells in specific areas. It is performed in a single procedure in a hospital, under general anesthesia and requires many weeks of recovery. You should expect significant bruising and swelling and you will be required to wear a postoperative compression garment for several weeks. Because it is a surgical procedure, there are a number of potential side effects associated with Liposuction. These include anesthesia risks, infection, scarring and possibly some irregular and unsightly results. After liposuction, if you regain some weight, other areas of your body will accumulate the fat. This usually occurs in the back, thighs and under the arms. In fact, many of our patients come to us for treatment AFTER liposuction to address and smooth out problem areas.
With Mesotherapy, the fat cells themselves are not removed. Instead, the injected formulas change the structure of fat cells with the use of medications, enzymes, and amino acids. It breaks down the fat cells, which then go into the blood stream and are flushed from the body through your normal body waste system. Fat cells do not reappear in other areas, which often occurs after liposuction. Mesotherapy does not require hospitalization, general anesthesia or any downtime. It is performed over the course of several weeks in a clinic, preceded by a topical numbing cream to reduce the slight discomfort of injections. There is minimal risk involved with Mesotherapy. At most, you can expect some swelling and minor bruising around the injection sites for a few days. You can be treated at lunch and return to work right after.
What about Mesotherapy for facial skin rejuvenation?
The Mesotherapy facial skin rejuvenation procedure helps provide a glowing appearance and helps tighten skin that has suffered due to age and loss of elasticity, or years of sun and ultraviolet light exposure. The treatment and maintenance program is based on combining the French Facial Nappage Technique, a skin rejuvenation treatment known to Parisian women for years. To lift the brow, tighten skin across the forehead, chin, and neck and around the eyes, microinjections of amino acids and vitamins are injected into the mesoderm, or middle layer of the skin. This nourishes your skin from the inside, promotes the production of collagen and elastin, and improves blood flow. Your skin will be firmer and more radiant than ever before. For maintenance, treatments are recommended several times each year. If you follow a good healthy diet and exercise regimen, the results should be long lasting.
What should I expect at each treatment?
For 2-3 days prior to each treatment, we suggest that you take homeopathic arnica tablets (provided by the clinic) to help reduce swelling and bruising associated with Mesotherapy.
Upon your arrival, you will be asked to disrobe in order to expose the target areas. Dr. Siddiq or her assistant will then rub a topical numbing cream onto these areas to help alleviate the discomfort of the injections. It will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour for the anesthetic takes effect. Treatment will begin right after.
Are there any restriction?
We suggest the following:
-No caffeine or other stimulants prior to treatment
-Do not use make up for at least four hours after facial treatments
-Refrain from rigorous workout or exercise at least 48 hours after treatment
-We recommend that you do not take a shower for at least 6-8 hours post-treatment
-If you are regularly taking vitamins, stop a couple days prior to your treatment.
-Do not take Advil or Ibuprofen, as this will increase the bruising. For pain relief, Tylenol is acceptable.
-We do not suggest scheduling a treatment during your menstrual period.
-We suggest a regular, high protein, low carbohydrate diet to maintain a youthful, healthy look.
How many treatments will I need and when do I see results?
Each one of us is different, so the number of treatments and appearance of results vary depending on your choice of treatment and specified goals. For body sculpting and cellulite treatment, we suggest an initial treatment of 5 sessions, review your progress at each subsequent session and schedule additional treatments as needed.
We suggest treatments to be scheduled 2 weeks apart, to give your body time to heal and to get the best results. If you’re travelling and cannot adhere to the 2 week schedule it should not affect the end result, but you should inform the clinic of your new schedule.
Will the results last?
The results do last, especially when combined with exercise and proper nutrition. The aging process, however, is something we cannot stop. To maintain a youthful look and desired results, we recommend regular maintenance visits.
Are the treatments painful?
There is always some discomfort associated with injections. You will have the option to receive the topical anesthetic that will make the treatment virtually painless. You can expect some discomfort and swelling once the effects of the topical cream wear off.
What side effects should I expect?
You can expect some soreness which will subside in 24-48 hours, bruises and swelling which should subside in a week.
I’ve seen Mesotherapy being offered in malls. What is different about Meso Laser Clinic?
You should only receive Mesotherapy treatments from an M.D. or D.O. who has ACCME Approved Continuing Medical Education Credits (CME's) who have received proper training. A nurse or physician assistant should not administer Mesotherapy without the M.D. or D.O. being present.
All treatments at Meso Laser Clinic are administered by Dr. Simin Siddiq, M.D., a licensed physician. Dr. Siddiq received her training from Mesotherapy Specialist Doctor R. Stephen Jennings, M.D., based in Newport Beach, California, and who is nationally known for his expertise in Mesotherapy, cellulite treatment and cosmetic medicine procedures.
Am I a candidate for Mesotherapy?
If you are healthy and between the ages of 18 and 80, Mesotherapy may be right for you. A full medical history will be part of your consultation with Dr. Siddiq. Patients who have moderate or severe heart disease, cancer, insulin-dependent diabetes, are on blood thinners or arrhythmia medications, immune-compromised or are organ transplant recipients are not eligible for Mesotherapy. Also, if you are pregnant, Mesotherapy should be considered after delivery.
How do I get started?
You should start with scheduling a free consultation with Dr. Siddiq at one of her three Meso Laser Clinics. During your personal consultation we will discuss your medical history and goals. We will also provide you with a list of “dos and donts”. Once you agree to proceed, you will receive 2-3 injections for allergy testing but will need at least 24 hours prior to the first treatment. Patients typically sign up and schedule their Mesotherapy appointments in order to best accommodate their schedule.
